Gavazzi confirms his high level in Turkey
Presidential Tour of Turkey (2.PRO)
Stage 7: Gelibolu – Tekirdag (135km)
A short and hard stage, in which the general classification was turned upside down and Francesco Gavazzi was once again the one to follow for EOLO Kometa. With his sights set on the favourites, he positioned himself perfectly on the second climb of the day, the one that broke the bunch and selected the race. The one that allowed him to be seventh at the finish line and move up one place in the overall race to twelfth.
Francesco Gavazzi: “Today’s stage was short but quite tense. I knew that the riders who could fight for the overall would try on the last climb, and I defended myself well on the last climb. The whole team has worked very well and, although I knew I was in a good shape, both today’s result and the performance in the last days give me confidence for the next goals like the Vuelta a Asturias and the Giro d’Italia. Tomorrow we will try to finish this Tour of Turkey well and then recover a bit”.
There is still the final stage in Istanbul, which, far from being a triumphal ride, looks like a last chance for Giovanni Lonardi to raise his arms. Time for commitment and for the work of all, to put the finishing touch to a great week of cycling in Turkey where crashes and places of honour have made EOLO Kometa the protagonist.
