Fourth place of Antonio Gonzalez in the Omnium of the International Track Trophy Bento Pessoa at Portugal
Last weekend also brought a very interesting performance by Antonio González from Soria in the International Track Trophy Bento Pessoa, held at the National Velodrome of Portugal located in Anadia, in the municipality of Sangalhos, north of Coimbra. González, who joins the youth team of the Alberto Contador Foundation after passing through the last edition of the Selection Campus La Mafia se sienta a la mesa of Zaragoza, was one of the twenty-two competitors in the Omnium test and finished in a meritorious fourth final position.
The junior cyclist of the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team fought for a podium, in whose third place he managed to settle with a five-point margin over the fourth classified, until the Points Race. During his dispute he suffered a fall, without consequences, and his rival would manage to score and add the necessary to surpass him in the fight for the bronze. Finally, González added 105 points against 117 totaled by the winner, the lusitano Luis Rosa.
“It was a very good experience because the level was very high and because running abroad always brings you things. I think that racing abroad is always good and being a cadet I have competed in France and Portugal”, González said. “I was not going to go to the Spanish Cup with Castilla y León, I was very interested in doing track this weekend, the Omnium was also held on Saturday and also put at stake UCI points, essential to go to the Spanish Championships.
After a seventh place in the Scracht race, González was a great performer in the Tempo Race with seven sprints that catapulted him to the third place in the provisional general classification. He managed to defend his place in the Elimination, where he finished fifth (“I was closed and couldn’t race”, he regrets), but in the Points Race his crash was eliminated from the fight. “After the fall I decided not to compete on Sunday and focus on the concentration of this weekend with the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team. I’m looking forward to starting this year’s races”.
