Fortunato, second in the queen stage of the Vuelta a Asturias
Vuelta a Asturias (2.1)
Stage 2: Candás – Cangas del Narcea (202km)
Just one step away from winning again, in a mountain stage and just one week before the Giro d’Italia. Lorenzo Fortunato was a great surprise in the final ascent to Acebo and in the vertiginous descent where he got very close to the race leader.
A very satisfying day for EOLO Kometa, with the brave breakaway of Alessandro Fancellu in the hard Asturian mountains. More than 200 kilometres and a very fast first hour finally gave way to the breakaway of 8 riders that was the protagonist of the day.
They could not dream of victory, but they completed 4 hours ahead of the peloton, overcoming kilometres and hard climbs. The climb to Acebo was still to come, where Lorenzo Fortunato did what he does best. He flew on his AURUM Bikes and was only 10 seconds away from winning. In the overall, 15 seconds separate him from the new leader Sosa (Movistar).
Lorenzo Fortunato: “I had a very good feeling and the team worked hard. On the final climb, I asked my team-mates to set the highest possible pace to make the selection. The truth is that the team was exceptional with Albanese and Gavazzi doing a great job to protect and place me. Fancellu has also been in the breakaway, and I think that the image given shows the high level of EOLO Kometa”.
