Fortunato: another step forward. Crash for Bais and Sevilla.
One brick after another: with patience, trying to grow a little more each day. This is how the most beautiful things are built: one brick after another. And today our Lorenzo Fortunato put another brick, building what will be his season. Because on a very hard finish, a climb that looked like it would go all the way to the moon, while up front yet another show by a Pogacar for whom we have run out of words, Fortunato showed he was there and growing.
A stage that saw the classic breakaway of the day, with Davide Bais still present but hit by bad luck with a crash during the descent. Bad luck that continued to affect our Davide, who then fell a second time while he was at the back of the group: for him some injuries, but nothing of concern. A crash for Sevilla should also be recorded, without serious consequences. The breakaway was then exhausted before the fireworks exploded with an attempt by Haig that triggered the reaction of Tadej Pogacar capable as always of routing the competition. Behind, as mentioned, our Fortunato who managed to hold on and arrive just behind the best.
Lorenzo Fortunato: “Today was a tough day because we went fast right away, but the team is doing really well. I stayed with the leaders until almost the end then when Pogacar attacked I pulled away, but I feel that I’m getting better every day and I’m sure I’ll grow more.”
Jesus Hernandez: “A bit unlucky day for us, with Bais falling twice: a few dents for him, but he still managed to cross the finish line. Too bad also for Sevilla, who also fell. We fought to get into the breakaway, and in the final Fortunato showed that he was really improving day by day. This is our philosophy, which we will carry on tomorrow as well: try to be part of the breakaway, and improve the final position with Fortunato.”
