Fortunato: another great day
And now Fortunato almost makes it look normal. Still there at the front (seventh at the finish line), still first of the Italians, further and further ahead in the overall standings (he is now fifth at 38″ from the leader), the only rider from a Professional team among so many World Tour riders. And the embrace of the fans after the finish, looking only for him because Fortunato and EOLO KOMETA are liked and sought by the people.
Third stage of the Tour of the Alps, uphill finish in Brentonico San Valentino: wild mountains, hard climbs, the usual dose of fatigue that this race reserves for riders without making discounts. As in previous days, the peloton went strong from the start and it was very complicated to take away the breakaway. They succeed after a good 50 km in 12 runners including our Mattia Bais: the race passed in front of his home, he wanted to show off a bit. The small group reached a 7-minute lead before the peloton opened the throttle ahead of the last climb to start the fireworks. Dombrowski went away solo with 10 km to go, while 5 km later from the small group sprinted Kämna along with Cepeda, who caught up with Dombrowski and then pulled away. At 500 meters the decisive acceleration of Kämna who pulled away from Cepeda to go for the win: right behind the other bigs with Fortunato. Still very good Tercero and Martìn, at ease on these climbs: but it is the whole team that is interpreting this Tour of the Alps very well, after a Giro di Sicilia as protagonists.
Lorenzo Fortunato: “I’m getting better and better, today I paid a bit for the very last sprint but the leg was turning very well and I managed to stay in front with the best. The condition is growing, and I’m sure the results will come soon: I feel all the benefits of the work done in the last few months, I’m really well.”
Jesus Hernandez: “After another beautiful day for our team, there’s really not much more to say: everyone did great, we raced as a team should race, Bais wanted to go in the breakaway to be seen by his family on the roads back home and he was a support for Fortunato. Also, what about Lorenzo? He is riding great, with his legs and his head. I’m very, very confident.”
