Fernando Tercero climbs up to the professional team to continue to shine in the EOLO Kometa maillot
The rider from La Mancha has completed an exceptional season in the under-23 team of the Alberto Contador Foundation and now seeks to continue the progression demonstrated in the professional team.
There are already three cyclists confirmed for next season who will make the jump from the under-23 team, who will continue to grow in a structure where the quality that has allowed them to shine so far is valued and appreciated. The challenge for Fernando Tercero, who started and finished this 2022 season winning, is to establish himself now among the climbers with the most potential in cycling. To confirm what he has already shown as an under-23 rider.
Winner of two general classifications, the Memorial Sanroma and the Volta a Galicia; outstanding podium in the Vuelta al Bidasoa and the Vuelta a Salamanca, undisputed protagonist in the hardest days of the Ronde de l’Isard as well as eighth in the final classification of the Giro sub-23. This is a small summary of what has been achieved by a brave, ambitious rider with a strong climbing character. But his performances did not end there, as he was also able to take silver medal in the Spanish time trial championships. To be a good cyclist, you have to perform on all terrains.
The professional team is waiting for him with open arms, aware of his enormous future, which is already a present. Motivated to teach and guide a Fernando Tercero who must be in the fight of the hardest stages, of the most difficult breakaways and who will continue to wear at least until 2024 the EOLO Kometa jersey now as a professional. He is the 17th rider to make the jump from the under-23 structure in the 10-year history of the project.
Fernando Tercero: “I am looking forward to this opportunity. It’s the dream of anyone who has been riding a bike since they were a child, to be able to become a professional and dedicate yourself to what you love so much, cycling. I hope to adapt quickly to the category, although it won’t be easy, but I’m going to do everything I can to help my team-mates, to learn. When they told me the good news I was very happy, I will try to do my best to give back the confidence of the whole team”.
Rafa Díaz Justo, sport director in the development team: “Fernando was born into the project, he has been with us since the junior team. He showed a great evolution in his second year under-23 and this season was his opportunity. We set very clear objectives and he achieved them, he has a winning mentality and has been fit all year. He had a special moment in Bidasoa and the Giro, where he confirmed his skills. He is a pure climber, who can defend himself in time trials, very regular and who is going to give a lot of success to this project. His jump to the professional team is already consolidated and Fernando’s future is spectacular”.
