EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 receives an invitation to race the Giro Baby
The U23 structure of the Contador Foundation will repeat the experience of 2019 and return to the Italian roads to compete in the 2021 edition of the Giro d’Italia U23, the Giro Baby, after having received an invitation from the organisers of a race that will be held next June on a route yet to be confirmed.
The Italian race, one of the most demanding in the category, always receives many requests. Among the more than sixty requests, the race promoters have confirmed the presence of 32 structures: sixteen Italian and sixteen foreign teams.
Among the foreign teams, thirteen countries will be represented: Belgium, Belarus, Colombia, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, Monaco, Russia, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom. Spain (EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, Caja Rural), Great Britain (Holdsworth Zappi Cycling Team, Trinity Racing) and Switzerland (Swiss Racing Academy, Velo Club Mendrisio) are the only countries with more than one team, besides Italy.
Rafa Díaz Justo: “We had the foresight that our team could take the baton from the professional structure, which with the jump in category can no longer compete this race. Two years ago, in 2019, we already had the opportunity to take on the Giro U23 and it was a great experience for all the riders. Two of the five riders who competed then, Sergio García and Arturo Grávalos, are now professionals, and another, Edu Pérez-Landaluce, returned in 2020 as a stagiaire and put in a great performance in the mountains. It is always a very demanding event, with very high competition and with practically the best riders in the world”.
