Double top-10 and great team work in the second stage of the Vuelta Asturias

Vuelta a Asturias (2.1)
Etapa 2: Ribera de Arriba - Ribadesella (199km)

Convinced of their chances against the big teams of the race, Team Polti Kometa worked seriously looking for the victory. Controlling the race and fighting at the end, Restrepo was fifth and Serrano seventh, signing a double top-10.

The second day of the Vuelta a Asturias was also the longest of this edition. And with it, the plan was to save forces and control the breakaways until the final part. Thus, Garosio and Davide Bais, together with UAE, prevented the breakaway groups from distancing themselves and in the final kilometres they also did their best to neutralise Fernández (Caja Rural).

The splendid work led to a sprint in the rain with Jhonatan Restrepo in fifth place and Javi Serrano in seventh position, while Morgado (UAE) was the fastest.

Jhonatan Restrepo: “The legs are starting to feel better, it has been a very hard day with a lot of cold. But I want to thank the guys for the great work they have done. I’m getting better every day and we hope to be even better tomorrow”.

Jesús Hernández, sport director: “The performance has been very good. The work, like yesterday, with Davide Bais and Garosio pulling the group for a long time together with UAE. And then, achieving a fifth and seventh place in the finish line, only WorldTeam riders have beaten us. It’s a good result for the team, for attitude, for performance, for the work done today”.

This Sunday the Vuelta a Asturias concludes with the final day that includes the Violeo climb as the most notable difficulty before the finish in Oviedo.
