Diego P. Sevilla showed his quality and fighting spirit in a disputed Vuelta a León
Diego Pablo Sevilla, thanks to a great performance in which showed his quality and fighting spirit, got the fourth place overall in a disputed Vuelta a León which, unfortunately, did not start well for RH+/POLARTEC U-23 since in the first of five stages was made a 22 riders breakaway in which none of the team was in and, despite working all day, they could not avoid to lose more than a minute handicap in the initial finish line.
From that moment, the team worked to place Sevilla, who had demonstrated his strength from the beginning, and that despite suffering two severe setbacks in form of crashes and abandons, first of Belgian rider Jesper de Plus (riding with the team for this race) and, in the fourth stage, another also quite hard crash of Fernando Barcelo, who had to take the same path as his companion.
Sevilla, however, managed a creditable fourth place in the queen stage and the last day confirmed the expectations in the final uphill time trial, over 10 hard kilometers, where he finished sixth, but other of the best team’s men in Leon, Juan Camacho, was the fastest RH+/POLARTEC, stopping the clock in fourth place. Sevilla, who reached the last day in eighth place overall, climbed to fourth, which may well have been second if he first day break wouldn’t have happened, and proclaimed first Under-21 of a tour that was dominated by the former professional and more expert Miguel Buhmann.
The weekend was completed in Cos (Cantabria), where ran individually Diego Noriega and Fran Pérez. Noriega, as already demonstrated in Giro della Valle d’Aosta, took advantage of his good form to score a great second place.
