David Martín will compete with the Spanish team in the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana

Good news for the start of the 2021 season. The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 rider David Martin will compete next Sunday in the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 enrolled in a spanish national squad.

“It is a great joy”, says the Seville native, one of the most outstanding riders of the 2020 season. He won the Copa de España race in Valladolid and led the provisional overall until the final race. “If the national team calls you it is because you have done things well. Within the rare that was last year, and of course thanks to the support of all my colleagues, we could achieve very nice results. It is a call that makes me very happy, it is always a reason for pride to be called by the selection. And even more so if it is to race against professionals”.

Martín will team up with Juan Ayuso from Alicante, Javier Serrano and Pablo García from Madrid and the Basques Unai Iribar, Xabier Isasa and Andoni López de Abetxuko. This will be the first race in which Mikel Zabala is behind the wheel as coach of the category.

The Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 is the new name under which the event that for years was known as the Trofeo Luis Puig returns to the calendar. Its last edition was held in 2005 and is now being recovered thanks to the work of the ex-professional Antonio Molina and the Club Ciclista La Marina.

A one-day event with a marked profile for fast men in whose list of achievements the names of some of the most important sprinters stand out. The tone can be repeated in 2021 given the 150 km route proposed by the organisation with a very favourable final part up to the finish line in the streets of Valencia.

“There is going to be a lot of level in this race. It is the first race of the season in Europe, many teams are training in the Comunitat Valenciana, the health situation has also postponed other tests and that will make, with the mind set on how it was last season, all the runners go with even more desire. For my part, I am going with the desire to learn, to enjoy, to do the best possible job assigned to me by the coach and to achieve the best possible position”, he concludes.
