Dario Giuliano and Tommaso Bessega in the top5 of the second stage of the Vuelta a Zamora
The second stage of the Vuelta a Zamora and the first after the initial time trial was the a stage to select the group of riders who will fight for the overall. Dario Giuliano was 4th and Tommaso Bessega 5th in a reduced group that was 24’ behind the winner.
During the first kilometres of the stage a dangerous breakaway formed and the team worked to close the gap and neutralize it. The day followed a script of attacks and counterattacks until the Fermoselle climb where the selection began. The uncomfortable terrain towards the finish line favored attacks to which the team riders responded in favor of a possible final sprint.
Tommaso Bessega, Dario Giuliano and Samuel Novak remained in the reduced group after a great work of Gabriele Bessega, Gabriele Raccagni and Manuel Sanroma. One of the attacks by a single rider came to fruition and despite the work in the last kilometres he took the victory with a 24″ lead. Tommaso Bessega and Dario Giuliano sprinted for good places. The Frenchman was fourth and the Italian fifth.
“They answered to a lot of attacks, but one rider went off alone, nobody wanted to pull and we started to work in the end thinking that we could close the gap with the help of another team. We didn’t achieve our objective, but it wasn’t for lack of desire. Dario is still well placed in the general classification’, explained Miguel Gómez about the day’s events.
