Coppi and Bartali: a great team, a great Tercero
What a stage, guys. The third day at Coppi e Bartali offered spectacle, battle, attacks and a beautiful placing for EOLO KOMETA, which celebrates the eleventh place of Fernando Tercero. A very respectable result for the Spanish rider, in his first year among the Pros but already at ease in the cycling of the big boys.
But let’s go in order.
Ready, go: and immediately a crash at the entrance of the first climb puts the peloton in chaos and makes the race explode with the attack of climber Guerin (Bingoal), who first tries it alone and then continues to attack with Marco Tizza, to return again to the lone attack on the first stretch of dirt road. After 60 km, with the group back compact, here is the attack of the day with our Garosio along with eight other colleagues: Rowe (Ineos), Nibali (Astana), Gamper (Bora Hansgrohe), Craddock (Jayco AlUla), Peyskens (Bingoal), Covili (Green Project Bardiani), Charrin (Tudor) and Restrepo (Shimano Sidermec). In front there is Covili who gives a lot of trouble in view of the general classification, so the group reacts by opening the throttle to get to close the breakaway with the Soudal action: on the last climb, with 22 km to go, there is a small group of 30 riders with all the EOLO KOMETA led by the experience of Gavazzi. Here three leave (Pozzovivo, Padun, Healy) while only 14 resist behind including our splendid Tercero. To play the final sprint in the Servadei velodrome remain the three attackers, with Healy launched by his companion Padun to precede Pozzovivo: behind, with the strongest, there is Tercero. Young, yes: but with ideas already very clear….
Fernando Tercero: “At the beginning, just before the first climb, there was a crash and from that moment on the race exploded and we went very strong all the time. Then, in the last climb there was a bit of selection but we managed to take it in a good position thanks to Gavazzi, and so we were able to enter the small group that had formed in front. I am happy with my placing and how the team raced.”
Biagio Conte: “Today we had to face a lot of gravel sections, and it was a very challenging day. After the first lap we put Garosio in the front who was very good at getting into the breakaway and was on the attack for a long time, then the group closed and we were there with the whole team which was wonderful. Gavazzi as a true captain was great to lead his teammates, then Tercero was great to break away with the front and finish in seventh place. I’m delighted, really: young guys like him are showing a great attitude and a lot of desire to get results. Well done, and on with it.”
