Coppa Bernocchi opens the big week of Italian classics
A total of four races in Italy, with the Coppa Bernocchi on Monday and the grand finale on Saturday at the Giro di Lombardia. A series of dates marked on the calendar where we will enjoy and also look for a great result. Ready for a great week of cycling.
After the great performance of Davide Bais, eighth last year, the goal can only be to improve. Always, looking for an even better result. And that is why the EOLO KOMETA is facing the 186 kilometres of the course with a strong squad. Davide Bais himself will not be at the start line in Parabiago. But Vincenzo Albanese, who is always a favourite, will be taking part in the race, along with Mattia Bais, Francesco Gavazzi, Alessandro Fancellu, Samuele Rivi, Diego Sevilla and Fran Muñoz, who already knows what it’s like to be in the breakaway in this race, last year also as a stagiaire.
On the course, four intermediate sprints will be contested in the first 12.5 kilometres to spice up the start of the race. After that, the 16.8 kilometre circuit will be followed by a total of seven laps to make the race harder and harder. This includes the ‘Piccolo Stelvio’, with a total length of 17km and an average gradient of 7.1% (14% at the steepest points). The finish at Legnano Castle will be the stage for the winner of the Coppa Bernocchi.
Sport director Stefano Zanatta talks about the team’s participation in the race: “It is one of the most beautiful races and also one of the oldest in Italy. Normally, it will be selected on the circuit with all the laps and we will see if a reduced group will arrive to the sprint or if the strongest riders will attack. We will try to ride for Vincenzo Albanese, in his last races with the team, we are coming from a great number of races where we are accumulating nice results and we will try to continue on this way”.
