Breakaway and 7th place for Oscar Orts

The third round of the Trofeo Victor Cabedo in Onda was the challenge for the juniors of the Polti Kometa team, who after a first weekend of great quality were aiming for victory in the general classification.

In the early stages of the day Oscar Orts, wearing the jersey of the best regional cyclist, attacked and went solo, gaining a lead of more than 30 seconds. He rode alone through the intermediate sprint in Onda at the end of the first lap, but was later absorbed by the group.

A small breakaway of 4 riders was formed later, but with very little difference. Arriving to the mountain pass Jose Miguel Moreira and Iker Diaz went to the ground at a roundabout. On the descent, Moreira suffered another fall. On that same climb and after a great work 3 cyclists of the team where part of the leading group.

Finally, in the short but demanding uphill finish at Onda Castle, Oscar Orts finished 7th, a few seconds behind the winner. Eleazar Jimenez, very close to Orts, was 11th. With one day left in the competition, they are 4th and 5th in the general classification.

“At the beginning of the stage I attacked just to test how my legs were going and who was following me. I won the first intermediate sprint, but they neutralised me. We rode at the front and in the climb we did a great job, especially Robinsón Rincón to select the group. It was a difficult finish to have a good place, I went flat out and finished 7th. The feeling is good, so let’s go for more”, said Oscar Orts at the end of the race in Onda.

Isaac Canton, as team sports director commented at the end of the day: “The team was good, but it was a difficult stage and we were unlucky. There is tomorrow ahead and bad luck is also part of cycling. They have to learn about these days and how to deal with them”.
