Bessega brothers close to the victory in Ciudad Real
After winning the previous day’s race in Toledo, Tommaso Bessega was just one step away from raising his arms again in Ciudad Real. Tommaso was second and Gabriele, his brother, was third in a very controlled race that was resolved in a sprint, as planned.
The race started fast with attacks and counterattacks that failed. The climbs were chained and a break of 2 cyclists was formed and rode ahead while behind Eleazar Jiménez, debutant with the U-23 team, managed to score third place in the first of the summits. Shortly after, they were neutralized and it was back to the initial script. With the three summits completed a new duo jumped and got a minute advantage, but the team managed to control the movement. The bunch reached the finish line compact and in the final sprint only one rider was faster than Tommaso Bessega.
Tommaso Bessega signed a new second place that made him the best U-23 rider of the race and his brother Gabriele completed the podium in a successful weekend for the team.
“It was easier than yesterday because of the course. There were several attacks, but from kilometer 50 we started to control in favor of Tommaso. They all worked well and we gradually spent a little bit. They came in well placed, but they were overtaken by the fastest today The last corner was very winding but they rode well and we finished a great weekend,” explained Miguel Gómez, team manager.
“Today the sensations were good and the team worked very well as always, but in the end the 160 kilometers breakaway of yesterday took its toll on my legs and I only managed to finish second and my brother third after having prepared for the sprint,” analyzed Tommaso Bessega protagonist for the team over the weekend.
