Arnau Gilabert closes his outstanding Volta a Valencia with fourth place in the last sprint
XII Volta a la Provincia de Valencia
Stage 4: Moncada – Moncada (122,3 km)
Barcelona’s Arnau Gilabert finished the Volta a la Provincia de Valencia in fifth place in a final general classification in which Pablo Carrascosa from Lizarte won. The stage through the Alto Turia was decisive and the final stage on Sunday, the traditional semi-urban circuit day in Moncada, was resolved with a mass sprint where the fastest rider was once again the Israeli Oded Kogut (Israel national team). Gilabert, however, finished fourth.
The stage was marked by the pulse between the peloton and a numerous group in which they were included on the part of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team u23 both Andrea Pietrobon and Pablo Uria. This group of escapees lived ups and downs in the collaboration, with subsequent attempts of ‘escape of the escape’ that finally, with the volata in perspective, did not lead anywhere. At the end of the race, the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team won the overall team victory.
“We had ahead of us a lap that presented two days to be resolved in a more than sure sprint and other two harder ones that, nevertheless, did not end up being for pure climbers. The evolution of the race has meant that the times between riders have been tighter and the overall has been very open. In this sense we played our trump cards, although we didn’t achieve everything we had planned, but within the team we believe that we performed well. Perhaps the most surprising day was the third day when the breakaway arrived, although it was a very important day thanks to Andrea’s victory”, explains Arnau Gilabert.
