Antonio Morgado reinforces his yellow in the Cueva del Castillo, where César Pérez finishes sixth and Nil Aguilera loses five seconds
Vuelta al Besaya
Stage 3: Puente Viesgo – Puente Viesgo (99,7 km)
A devilish pace by the Bairrada rider Daniel Lima in the final ascent to the surroundings of the Cueva del Castillo de Puente Viesgo disarticulated many offensive spirits and reinforced the strength of Antonio Morgado who catapulted to a new partial victory after a final acceleration, 200 metres from the end, of the Belgian Sente Sentjens (Acrog). A third day in which Joel Díaz had to get off the bike, weighed down by injuries from the crash he suffered the previous day.
The leader Morgado was the fastest among a dozen riders among whom, with the final acceleration, there were minimal differences, just a few seconds. César Pérez would finish sixth, first rider of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team in the finish line this Saturday, and a little behind Nil Aguilera, who was taken out of point by the pace of Lima when he was postulated to star in some acceleration.
The truth is that Morgado’s protagonism was total on the day in the Pasiego valleys due to a mechanical breakdown. La Braguía had selected the race a lot, but its summit was far from the end and the terrain behind was very favourable. A puncture of the Lusitano, and a subsequent change of bike, temporarily fuelled some uncertainties.
This Sunday, with a morning stage, the Vuelta al Besaya will conclude in Los Corrales de Buelna. More than 110 kilometres of stage that in its final part will link the Collada de Brenes and the Collada de Cieza, the latter with its summit eleven kilometres from the end. Antonio Morgado starts as leader, 6 seconds ahead of Estanislao Calabuig (Bathco), 10 seconds ahead of Nil Aguilera and 25 seconds ahead of Nil Gimeno.
