Another day of learning in France: “We set off at the foot of the first climb at an average speed of 45 km/h”
Ain Bugey Valromey Tour 2022
Stage 3: Loyettes – Amberieu-en-Bugey (94,1 km)
The presence of the Coll de Seillonnaz and the Col de Route midway through the third stage ensured movement on the slopes. A vertiginous approach, at a very high pace, which made a hot day even tougher. The stage was won by the German Emil Herzog, winner of the Youth Peace Race and new leader in France. Nil Aguilera arrived in a second group, 27th in this third stage, and Álex García in a third.
“It was flying during the first thirty kilometres”, explains Nil Aguilera. “We were at the foot of the first climb at an average speed of 45 km/h. César Pérez did a spectacular job to position me well and put me in front. The first climb I got to the top in front. Just on the descent, before the start of the second climb, Jan Christen moved and when I went to go out I had a mechanical problem and they left me. I stayed in a third group until the last climb, where I started at full throttle and, at the top, I was able to catch the second group. In the sprint, to finish, I gave everything”.
Álex García: “It took me quite a while to start to find my sensations. The first day I didn’t feel good at all between the heat, the speed and the general discomfort in my body. In the second stage I felt a bit better and today, with a bit more mountains, I’m starting to feel much better. It seems that as the days go by I’m getting better, so let’s see how these days go. This Saturday comes the real mountains”.
More mountain for this Saturday.
