Andrea Pietrobon, KOM leader at the Tour du Limousin with Lonardi 9th in the sprint
Two out of two for Andrea Pietrobon, who got back into the breakaway of the day (very hard to be there today) to score the necessary points to be in the Tour du Limousin podium as the best climber of the race. EOLO KOMETA worked perfectly to allow Giovanni Lonardi to sprint for ninth place in the final sprint.
Another hot day, a day of more than 180 kilometres and a very fast start. Nothing stopped Pietrobon, who wanted to repeat at the front of the group and who managed to score the maximum number of points in the first two climbs of the day. A total of 15 points that put him in the lead of the KOM classification.
The accumulated effort after yesterday’s breakaway meant that with 25 kilometres to go he had to drop from the leading group and be absorbed by the main bunch. With two demanding stages still ahead, the saved forces will be very important in the defence of that polka dot jersey.
Great work from the rest of EOLO KOMETA behind, fighting for position until the last few metres in the sprint. Mirco Maestri and the stagiaire Fran Muñoz carried Lonardi, who could not finish in the final meters and settled for ninth place behind the winner Mozzato (Arkea).
Andrea Pietrobon: “I’m really satisfied with the performance, but it’s a pity at the end that I wasn’t able to hold on until the breakaway were absorbed to try to get a good position. On the positive side, I’m happy to have won the mountains jersey and we’ll fight for it in the remaining days”.
