Albanese, top-15 in the toughest race of the Challenge of Mallorca
A very fast day, with mountainous difficulties from the first kilometres and brave movements, left Albanese as the best EOLO Kometa at the finish line in Lloseta.
The race started with determination and the riders of the team were very attentive to the cuts that were proposed on the way to the top of Femenies. Diego Rosa, who was wearing his Gobik clothing for the first time, made a special attempt, but in the end no blue rider was able to get into the breakaway, so the only thing left was to wait for the decisive moment: the chain of Sóller and Puig Major on the hardest part of the climb, which should decide the race.
And so it was, and even before the ascent to Sóller the main group began to be selected with Vincenzo Albanese resisting the strong pace of the teams that aspired to win the race. With a reduced peloton of just 40 riders, but with seven riders ahead of him who were playing for the win and the places of honour, Albanese had to settle for 15th place in the bunch, demonstrating his quality in the uphill finishes, like the one today.
Jesús Hernández: “We went out to win, and Albanese was our man. The team supported him, but the final climb to Puig Major was too much for a rider like him. If we look at the riders who came in front, they were climbers and it’s a merit to have managed to hold on behind. Tomorrow he will adapt better and I’m sure he will give us a great joy”.
