Albanese, so close to victory in Asturias

Work pays off. Preparation shows itself in results. Vincenzo Albanese was just one step away from victory at the start of Asturias, being the fastest of the group that crossed the finish line after the winner Yates (BikeExchange).

A stage full of climbs, in which the pace behind was sustained, looking to let the kilometres go by and allowing the breakaway to accumulate almost 10 minutes of advantage.

It was the final succession of climbs that eliminated the breakaway’s options, while Vicenzo Albanese and Lorenzo Fortunato stayed in the group of just 10 riders that held the leading positions. On his home terrain, the mountains, Fortunato showed the high level with which he arrives at the Giro d’Italia. In the reduced sprint, Albanese was unbeatable and led the second group.

Vincenzo Albanese: “It was a nice race, in which I was able to achieve a new second place that adds to all the good positions already got this season, and certainly allows us to continue looking forward to the victory. I’m happy, but of course I would have loved to win”.
