Albanese: a diamond is forever
And in the end the Tre Valli Varesine brought what we were chasing: Vincenzo Albanese, thanks to placings at the Coppa Agostoni and Coppa Bernocchi won the special Trittico Lombardo classification, taking home the characteristic diamond. A prestigious goal, won in the past by important riders, that rewards Albanese for a wonderful end of season to which only the victory is missing.
And to say that the Tre Valli was not a memorable day for us at EOLO KOMETA: Erik Fetter animated the day’s breakaway along with eight other riders, which reached a 5-minute lead but which the peloton always controlled. Bringing the race to a close were Piganzoli and Sevilla, who came with the peloton after it was Belgian Van Wilder who crossed the finish line on Via Sacco first. Immediately after the end of the race, it was easy to reckon with the rules in hand and celebrate the victory of Vincenzo Albanese, who was called to the podium to take the applause of the city of Varese, which once again showed its love for cycling.
And the most excited, it was Vincenzo himself: “I almost can’t believe it. Today the gas ran out early and I had to stop, so the diamond was out of my mind by then: only at the end, we realized that according to the rules I had won and I rushed to the podium. For weeks now I have felt that my legs have been spinning very well, and every day I repeat that my desire is to give EOLO KOMETA a satisfaction to close these three wonderful years in the best possible way. I think this diamond is really the most beautiful way to thank everyone, to remember every moment we have lived together-I dedicate it to everyone with whom I have shared something in these three years. Besides, the season is not over yet…who knows, maybe a nice victory will come too!”
