A quiet day with our leaders well protected on the first stage at l’Ain

33º Tour de l’Ain
Stage 1: Parc des Oiseaux – Bourg-en-Bresse (141 km)

A day to save, mission accomplished. The first stage of the Tour de l’Ain, the most favourable for a mass sprint, fulfilled the forecast, had a breakaway of three riders (finally two) that was caught in the last ten kilometres, experienced some crashes in the final stretch to the finish and ended up being resolved in a ‘volata¡ where the fastest, and therefore the first leader, was the Colombian Álvaro Hodeg.

The riders of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team finished the day inside the peloton after managing to the perfection this first fraction of the French race. Within the group, Luca Wackermann was the first among the riders of the Foundation ProTeam structure, with Erik Fetter and Edward Ravasi close behind.

The story will start to be totally different this Friday, with a medium-mountain stage in which the fight for the general classification will start to be elucidated and which offers a route in which different strategies can be executed.

Mattia Frapporti, who was instrumental in controlling the race for his leaders: “A day gone by. It was an easy and normal stage until the last ten kilometres. Then the group broke up. I got caught in a crash that took place in the last six kilometres, but luckily our riders to make a good general classification saved it without problems, although I couldn’t get back to the first group”.
