A crash denies Fortunato of fighting for Adriatica Ionica
Adriática Iónica (2.1)
Stage 1: Tarvisio-Monfalcone (193’9km)
A fall in the final part of the stage ruined all the work of EOLO Kometa, trying to protect Lorenzo Fortunato who was riding in the select leading group with Diego Pablo Sevilla and Marton Dina. It was a stage to pass, to try to avoid problems, but bad luck did not want to smile to the blue, pending the condition of the cyclist to see if he can take the start tomorrow.
The multiple abrasions suffered by Fortunato, together with the significant lose of time caused by the fall, prevent the young Italian rider from being able to fight for the general classification of a race in which he won a stage victory and the overall victory in 2021, and which he was facing with great enthusiasm and motivation. Initial medical examinations reveal that Fortunato has nothing broken, although he is in a lot of pain from the blows and injuries.
Biaggio Conte: “The balance of the stage cannot be positive. Fortunato crashed in the last kilometres of the stage when he was in the front group with Marton and Diego, who stayed to wait for him. Now it’s time to assess Lorenzo’s injuries and hope that he recovers as quickly as possible”.
