A crash cuts Francesco Gavazzi out of the fight for victory

The dazzling spectacle of what surrounded this stage, the beauty of the places and villages, the poetry of a corner of Tuscany that looks like a piece of paradise. And the dust, the gravel, the fatigue, the bad luck. And the anger for another narrow victory, combined with the awareness of having made another day as absolute protagonists, in a Giro that for EOLO-KOMETA is becoming more and more incredible, more and more beautiful.
Perugia-Montalcino: the stage of Brunello and Strade Bianche, one of the most characteristic of this Giro. Everyone expected a battle between the big guys (which there was, with Bernal giving another shake to the classification), but instead the good breakaway arrived: able to start immediately, to reach over 12 minutes of advantage, to arrive at the finish line. Among the fugitives, once again, our Francesco Gavazzi for whom words are now finished: great, simply great. And “Gava” fought like a lion until the end, attacking the dirt tracks and pushing towards his (and our) dream, until a very unfortunate fall that put him out of the game a few kilometres from the end.
And yes, a lot of anger: sacrosanct, normal. And along with the anger, however, the awareness of being here at the Giro to play the part of the protagonists. The EOLO-KOMETA has always done so, and will continue to do so until the end and until the legs hold up. Starting tomorrow: from Siena to Bagno di Romagna. Long stage (212 km) with 4 KOM: we want to dream again.
Stefano Zanatta, DS EOLO-KOMETA: “Again today we were the protagonists of the stage, as we have done in all the stages we’ve ridden so far. Gavazzi was very good at catching the good breakaway, and I assure you that it was not at all easy: he believed in it until the end and it’s really a pity for that unfortunate fall that cut him out of the fight for victory. It’s a pity for him because it’s the second time he’s come close to winning, and it’s also a pity for the blow he got. We will continue to race like this, interpreting each stage to try to win it: starting from the next one. As I always say: our Giro starts tomorrow”.
