A beautiful and unfortunate race, looking ahead
I Per Sempre Alfredo
Florence – Sesto Fiorentino (162.1 km)
The wonder of the places around Florence, framed by history and beauty. The ever-living memory of a cycling legend like Alfredo Martini who lived in these places, taking the strength to become great. A race born to make his name live forever, the “Forever Alfredo”. An unlucky race, however, for the EOLO-KOMETA that still has to postpone the appointment with the first victory of the season.
Unlucky, yes: first with the fall that forced Davide Bais to retire (for him only some bruises), then with the crash that put Mattia Frapporti out of the games at four kilometers from the end, leaving the others to play the final victory in the sprint (at the end Moschetti won, after Aristi and Zambelli).
There is no time to look back, because as Ivan Basso always says “Today is already tomorrow”. And the tomorrow of EOLO-KOMETA is called Coppi e Bartali, with the race in Emilia Romagna that will start on Tuesday and that will see the “Blue Team” at the start, more hungry than ever.
Lorenzo Fortunato: “Today was a fast race, we tried to move it going away in the first climbs but there was a lot of wind and … it was good to stay on the wheel. In the final part of the race we were all in front and ready, but there was a crash that cut off Albanese and Frapporti who were our men for the sprint. In short, we were unlucky but I think the team is there in view of the Coppi e Bartali”.
