Lonardi is fifth again in the fast second stage of the CRO Race
The riders rode at more than 45 kilometres per hour on average on the second day of the CRO Race, with a sprint finish in which Giovanni Lonardi was again among the best, fifth again, to stay in the top-10 of the general classification.
An uneventful day in sporting terms, with a high speed and a course of only 119 kilometres. The peloton flew in pursuit of the four escapees, always in sight on the long straights of the Croatian islands. Nothing to do, the sprint was inevitable. And EOLO KOMETA worked to perfection, occupying the front row of the peloton with up to four riders.
There were Erik Fetter, Andrea Pietrobon, Mirco Maestri and David Martin, recovered from yesterday’s fall, who had to lead Lonardi. A little crash in the last climbed made it toughter for Lona, but their mates helped him again. Somewhat closed in the final metres, the Italian could not improve his 5th place of yesterday and repeated his result thinking about the remaining days. David Martin was not far behind, in 12th position. At least two more chances in this CRO Race.
Giovanni Lonardi: “Today unfortunately on the last climb I crashed, then I managed to get back on the group but in the final I didn’t have the best legs. Tomorrow there is another finish suitable for me, and sport director Biagio Conte said I have to enter at least the top-3. So, let’s hope!”.
Jesús Hernández: “As yesterday, the work of the teammates has been impeccable. In the approach kilometres with Fetter and Pietro while in the final part we have seen Maestri and David Martin again doing a spectacular job. Victory will come because we are working very well”.
