David Martín will continue in EOLO KOMETA for another year
The Andalusian sprinter David Martin renews the confidence of EOLO KOMETA and will continue in 2024 in the professional team of the Alberto Contador Foundation. It will be his third year, after two seasons in which he has always shown a good level and has come close to winning races such as Giro di Sicilia or Belgium Tour.
“Since I joined the team, the objective has always been to grow step by step, to learn and I am happy to renew for another year. Five years in the project, three of them in the professional team”, admits David Martín. His time in the under 23 structure helped him to show his quality in the massive sprints. “I like to get into the sprints, to show the speed I have and 2023 has been a nice season in that way, to be able to fight against great sprinters like Jakobsen or Philipsen, to feel myself with the best in the world”. The challenge is still to beat them on their terrain, something that seems to be getting closer and closer.
“I have a special memory of Belgium Tour when I came fifth against these huge riders. I had a mixed feeling of sadness, thinking that I could have been even further ahead, but at the same time of satisfaction for the result and for how well I felt and how strong I felt”, says the cyclist. The opportunity is sure to present itself again, with a calendar that always offers possibilities to the fastest riders.
In 2024, David Martín’s dreams and objectives will be repeated: “I will continue to fight to raise my arms in a sprint finish, in front of the best in the mass finishes. I want to prove that I’m worthy of it and that I can fight for it. Again Belgium Tour and ZLM, like this year, I think they will be two goals to try to do well”. And when the job is to collaborate with his team-mates or to be in the breakaway, David will also do his job as we are used to.
Jesús Hernández, sport director of EOLO KOMETA: “Another cyclist who has grown up in our U23 team. It is great news that he will continue to compete with the colours of the team, also as a safe value for his speed, his solvency in the most complicated days due to the wind and his commitment when he is required for team work. His teammates appreciate having him in a race and we are sure that he will continue to contribute to the team”.
