Maestri, 5th at the end of Okolo Slovenska

New place of honour for Mirco Maestri and EOLO KOMETA in the final stage of Okolo Slovenska. The competition closes five days of protagonism of the team, looking for the breakaways with Erik Fetter or Andrea Pietrobon and also the two top-5 of Maestri in the final days.

The day had a consensual breakaway at the front and the peloton, with the gap to be kept under control. They did not exceed 3 minutes, they had no options and the fight to try to get a good result was focused on the dispute of the sprint. There, an excellent placement left Mirco Maestri in a phenomenal position, although the fastest riders overtook him in the final metres and he had to settle for fifth place.

Mirco Maestri: “We focused the stage very well, knowing that it was going to be a sprint finish and that we had to be very well placed. We did well, I entered in second position perfectly guided by my team-mates, but in the last few metres I were overtaken by faster riders. I felt good, everyone’s work was fantastic and I think we can be satisfied. Now we have to think about Croatia”.

Biagio Conte: “The Soudal team didn’t give us a chance, Mirco Maestri came in today in a fantastic position on the finishing straight and was able to finish fifth, which is a good position. For the team, we concluded a Tour de Slovakia in which we worked well, maintaining a fantastic attitude at the front of the bunch and in the breaks to look for the best possible result”.
