Paul Double, a British climber for EOLO KOMETA
The signings of the EOLO KOMETA team for the 2024 season continue. After the confirmation of Fran Muñoz, from the under-23 team of the Alberto Contador Foundation, and Jhonatan Restrepo, it is also announced the signing of the British Paul Double from Human Powered Health team.
Double (Winchester, England, 1996) reinforces the team for the most demanding days, after two seasons at a high level always in the top-10 of stage races like Slovenia, Bulgaria (with stage victory) or Hellas, and in classics like Toscana or Appennino. “I am really proud and excited to join the team for next season. It’s going to be great to race in Italy again,” says the Briton, who raced with Colpack team in its early days of his career and knows the transalpine peloton well. “Of course, the biggest goal is to fight for a victory and win in the team’s colours”.
Undoubtedly, an added value of his incorporation is knowing that he will be part of a structure with two great managers who for him are references: “Being in a team that belongs to Ivan Basso and Alberto Contador is something very special. The conversations I had with Fran Contador showed from the beginning a great connection and of course I think I can fit very well in this project”. The confidence of the technical staff is also full in order to take the responsability of the race in the hard days and in the stage races that will be presented on the day of the race.
Paul makes no secret of his admiration for the team’s recent achievements: “The results that EOLO KOMETA have put together, their performance in the Giro d’Italia, shows that they are a great team and I hope I can add to that great performance from everyone”. Such a strong performance is certainly a challenge for any rider, and one that the Briton is determined to meet: “I would love to ride the Giro d’Italia of course, and to be able to prove my options in a race of that level.
With the EOLO KOMETA team’s extensive and growing calendar, the opportunities and responsibilities will undoubtedly come for Double: “I hope to be able to ride the calendar of races that really suit my qualities and allow me to show my best, to achieve a great result for the team”.
Fran Contador, general manager of EOLO KOMETA, highlights “his experience despite his youth. He is a climber that we are convinced will give us presence in one-week tours and hard races”. The head of the structure is confident in the British rider for next season: “I think Paul is talented and in our opinion, he still has margin for improvement. If we combine that with his motivation and goals, it’s certainly the perfect cocktail for results”.
Stefano Zanatta highlights “Paul Double’s condition as a climber. I think he still has margin for improvement and in the hard stages, especially when the race goes uphill, he has a great performance. For us, he allows us to fill that position of climber, a reference for the most demanding races, where he will surely give us a leading role”.
