Giro dell’Appennino: it’s back to racing

Giro dell'Appennino, 198.5 km (1.1)
Friday, June 2

There is no stopping, no stopping. Still in the heart and mind all the emotions of a Giro d’Italia that has just ended, and it is already time to return to racing in a season that leaves no breath and always offers opportunities to chase a result. And so here we are at this Giro dell’Appennino, which reaches its 84th edition this year and will be dedicated to the memory of the great Davide Rebellin. A race that will be decided in the last 50 km with two treacherous climbs and two difficult descents, and that will see EOLO KOMETA field a young lineup full of desire. Want to show off, want to give continuity to the results of the Giro, want to keep the ambition and hunger for victories burning. The season is still long: with the Giro d’Italia archived, the third part of the calendar begins. And we, we want to be ready.

Giovanni Ellena: “The route will be more or less the same as last year, with the finish being identical and the first part changed with the passage from Arquata Scrivia to pay homage to Mino De Rossi, Olympian in 1952. The first part will be an up and down in the lower Piemonte, while the last 50 km will be the most challenging with the Pietralavezzara climb and a very difficult descent, then up to Madonna della Guardia which is a very challenging 8 km climb and following descent in which we will have to be very careful and which will be close to the finish. There will be three World Tours – Arketa, Intermarché and UAE – and we will be at the start with Piganzoli and Tercero who in the race done with the national team showed a great condition even on a course not really suitable for them, and in support of the two of them there will be Martìn and Garosio, while in the first part Fancellu, Pietrobon and Serrano can help us by throwing themselves into some breakaway.”

Davide Piganzoli: “In my opinion we are ready for this race. We have a young team, but one that can still do good things and aim for a good placing if not victory. After the Tour of Hungary and the stage race in Poland I feel good, I have a good condition and we will try to exploit it also to gain some experience.”
