Miguel Domínguez leads the Central Mountain Challenge with one day to go
Saturday with double sector brought a very positive day for the interests of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team junior. In the morning team time trial, with a victory for the Contador Foundation squad that allowed Miguel Domínguez to climb to the lead, leaving Balint Feldhoffer and Sergio Calvo very well placed. In the semi-stage in line in the afternoon, with the passage through the Faya de los Lobos, a commendable team work to defend the lead.
The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team won the morning time trial with a time of 17’53” in the 13.2 km, 35 seconds below the time set by Bathco and MMR. The time trial elevated Domínguez to the lead, with Balint Feldhoffer, Gerard Cano and Sergio Calvo following.
“It was a very hard time trial, the truth is that the teammates have imposed a very strong pace and it has cost us all. But that effort was worth it in the end with the victory. Looking ahead to the afternoon stage, we were on the defensive, especially with the lead and three riders well positioned in front of us. First and foremost, we had to be attentive to all the movements at the front”.
The second sector, in line, with start and finish in Pola de Laviana, started with a small delay due to traffic-related issues, but it was again very fast. The race was very selective in the Faya de los Lobos, the great pass of this edition, whose base was reached with the team doing a formidable collective work. On the ramps of the pass, Héctor Álvarez (De la Uz) would move to win alone, slightly outstanding.
Miguel Domínguez: “It was a very hard day today. In terms of hardness, I couldn’t choose one of the two sectors. We did the time trial at full throttle, it was a very intense effort, looking for that good rhythm. In the second sector there were a lot of starts. The work of our team-mates was impressive”.
