Sixth place for Andrea Montoli in the frenetic closure of the Bidasoa Itzulia

49º Bidasoa Itzulia / Vuelta al Bidasoa
Etapa 3: Irún – Irún (74,3 km)

The Bidasoa Itzulia closed once again with a short final stage in terms of mileage, but very entertaining as far as orography is concerned. Five mountain passes in less than 75 kilometres where a large breakaway was strong. In the breakaway of the breakaway of the breakaway, in Irún Andrea Montoli took sixth place in a day with a partial victory for Pablo Carrascosa (Finisher) from Extremadura and a win in the final overall for Jaume Guardeño (Caja Rural) from Alicante.

Short stage, lively pace, a large breakaway of nineteen riders that formed in the first third of the day, with Ramón Fernández and Andrea Montoli present in the movement. And a constant income of around one minute with respect to the leader’s group Marc Cabedo (Telco’m). The passage through San Marcial and Erlaitz selects the leading group, leaving five riders in the front and Montoli fighting intensely to stay in front, while at the back of the leader’s group there were also various movements.

Andrea Montoli, 14th in the final overall. “Today we again had the chance to be in the big breakaway of the day. Ramón and I were in front and we managed the first few passes well. On the climb to Erlaitz, with one kilometre to go to the top, Carrascosa made a move on the hard part. I couldn’t get away from that attack and we grouped some riders together on the false flat that followed. At the end of the sprint I did what I could. I finish the day happy for this day, but with a bit of regret for not being able to catch those in front, although I gave everything I had”.
