Valladolid and San Vendemiano await EOLO-KOMETA U23 this Sunday
The Memorial Ángel Lozano of Valladolid, which resumes the Spanish Cup after the Easter break, and the Gran Premio di San Vendemiano, which ends the Italian spring poker of big international one-day races in the U23 category, share this Sunday the competitive front that the U23 team of the Contador Foundation faces.
For the cup race in Puebla, halfway point of this edition, the technical direction of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team has called Gabriele Bessega, Tommaso Bessega, Ramón Fernández, Antonio González, Raúl López, Sebastiano Minoia and Fran Muñoz. For the Italian race, in the province of Treviso, the team will be made up of Edoardo Alleva, Luca Bagnara, Arnau Gilabert, Andrea Montoli, Gabriele Raccagni and Pablo Uría.
The Memorial Ángel Lozano is characterised by its ‘favourable’ and steep terrain, with areas exposed to the action of the wind, punctuated by the climbs of La Parrilla, twice La Garganta and Portillo, Simancas and Robladillo. Short climbs, without extreme percentages, but always likely to incite a skirmish and break up the race. The volata, however, is usually a recurring fate in the resolution of the race.
Sebastiano Minoia, twelfth in the provisional overall of the Cup: “Sunday’s race is a good race for Fran or for me and if we are together, like the good team that we are, we can put in a very good performance. We are confident and eager. As always, we’ll be at our best, helping and working with our team-mates and, if necessary, with myself too. Personally I’m fine now, I had a very difficult week with fever and headache, I fell ill just before the Valenciaga and I had to withdraw almost from the start, because in a rainy and cold race like the one that came out it would have been counterproductive. My legs are fine, maybe not at the top level, but I’m fresh. We’re going to try to get a good result, score points, move up in the general classification and look ahead to the next race”.
The Trofeo San Vendemiano, which a year ago was held in March and opened the block of great one-day races completed by the Trofeo Piva, the Giro del Belvedere and the Gran Premio Palio del Recioto, maintains its traditional scheme of linking a couple of circuits: a first, flatter route, where ten laps will be completed, and a second, much harder one, with the Prosecco hills as protagonists, where five passes over the Muro di Ca’ del Poggio (1.1 km at 5%) and over Formeniga (2.7 km at 4%) will be tackled.
Pablo Uría: “Training is not the same as competing. In the training sessions I’m feeling very good and I think the physical condition is good, but we know that everything is different in the races. The previous sensations are good and I hope that both myself and the team can do a good race this Sunday. San Vendemiano is one of the most important races on the calendar, it will have a very high level and just being here is a great opportunity, new for me too because in 2022 I only competed in the Fubine Trophy”.
April 16: Memorial Ángel Lozano / Spanish Cup: Valladolid – Valladolid (160.5 km).
April 16: Gran Premio Citta di San Vendemiano (171.6 km).
