Vincenzo Albanese takes second again in the sprint in Sicily

Again on the edge. Once again, very close to victory. EOLO KOMETA worked to perfection to get their leader Albanese into the best position for the sprint. And he deployed his speed, but could not overcome Bonifazio (Intermarché) although he consolidates his regularity jersey. The prize for his perseverance.

Almost 200 kilometres practically flat, with a controlled breakaway that tried to keep a pulse on the peloton, but was losing units and neutralised 7 kilometres from the finish line thanks to the effort of the EOLO KOMETA riders. Everything was getting ready for a mass finish and Alba, perfectly placed, was waiting for his chance. Both Diego Pablo Sevilla and Mirco Maestri left him at less than 400 metres at the head of the peloton, all ready for the final sprint.

A long straight and the lack of hardness prevented Vincenzo Albanese from improving his second place of yesterday, but he adds 6 seconds bonus and is only 6 seconds behind the still leader Fisher-Black (UAE). What he does get is the regularity jersey, which he was already wearing today. He is undoubtedly the fittest rider in the competition with two days still to go.

Vincenzo Albanese: “It seems that every day there is a rider a little bit stronger than me. But I think the team did a spectacular job until the last 500 metres, trusting me and believing that I could win. Over the WorldTour riders and really putting me in the best position to fight for the sprint, even though it wasn’t the best finish for me. Tomorrow will be another great day to try to get the win”.

This Thursday, the 150 kilometres between Enna and Termini Imerse present a more demanding profile and above all an uphill finish, in the style of the first day of the Giro di Sicilia, in which Albanese will try to achieve the victory that he has already been so close to in the first two stages.
