Bevilacqua tries, Fetter along with the best
Quinn Simmons, somewhat surprisingly since everyone was expecting another sprint finish, won the third stage of the Vuelta a San Juan with a sprint in the last kilometer: behind him Richeze and Bennett, who maintains the leadership in the general classification. A stage that saw the long breakaway of seven riders, caught with 30 kilometers to go, and was once again characterized by heat and wind. Enlivening the finale, before Simmons’ shot, was our own Bevilacqua, who tried a breakaway with 4 km to go just before the entrance to the autodrome. However, his valiant attempt was neutralized by the peloton. While Bevilacqua was sprinting, in the rear a crash involved Raccani and Bais: a few bumps, but there did not seem to be any worrying consequences.
Biagio Conte: “Today we had the reaction of our guys, we decided to wait for the final to try something with Bevilacqua: we knew that inside the circuit it would be difficult so we anticipated, we tried. In the final we wanted to try to attack also with Fetter but the speed was too high, anyway Erik arrived with the first ones and this is good for the general classification. With 5 km to go there was a crash that also involved Raccani but he restarted immediately, unfortunately Bais also fell and we will evaluate his condition.”
Simone Bevilacqua: “I tried, I did what I had planned with Biagio and the team. I knew that as soon as we entered the circuit the group would increase the speed so I anticipated, then the wind certainly didn’t help me but I still tried and gave everything. Sooner or later, i will make it.”
