“After contributing my grain of sand to the team with my work and sacrifice, the long-awaited victory came”
Exultant. Very happy. That’s how Pedro García from Murcia is after his victory this Sunday in the Gran Premio de Vilamarxant cycling race, a race that put at stake the Championship of the Comunitat Valenciana youth and in which he took part with his brother Héctor.
“This victory has been a tremendous joy. We have fought hard since the beginning of the season. I haven’t been able to find the best feelings at times, but I’ve always been doing my bit for the team. After all that hard work, after all that sacrifice, this long-awaited victory has arrived. A long-awaited victory. Of course I thank the whole team for the enormous support they have given me during this time. It has helped me a lot”, he says.
A Grand Prix of Vilamarxant that he will never forget and about which we asked him to tell us how he experienced the race: “It was a 37.3-kilometre, leg-breaking circuit, which was repeated three times. At the start of each lap we had to face a climb of about three and a half kilometres. That’s where I attacked on the last run, after having tried it a few more times before”.
“After my breakaway, Emilio Llopis also made his move. Together we were able to leave, collaborating in the relays. Behind, not far behind, there were four other riders, including Héctor Sánchez. Emilio and I waited for them with a view to working together to distance the peloton further. With about ten kilometres to go, the attacks at the head of the race arrived and Iker Soriano, Héctor, Emilio and I stayed at the front. The four of us reached the sprint and at the finish I was able to impose my speed”, he added.
