Segorbe – Segorbe (94,6 km)
Joel Díaz, from Barcelona, was close to the final victory in the Trofeo Víctor Cabedo 2022 after a Trofeo Entrada de Toros y Caballos with some accidents in its final part due to crashes, incidents that delayed the leader Pau Martí until now. Díaz, third at the finish line in Segorbe, was one second behind Mario Anguela, who crossed the finish line immediately after the Catalan, fourth.

Apart from a few attempts to move the race in the first third, a strong headwind made itself felt and kept the lead grouped together for a good part of the final day. It was not until the final part, with the second and last ascent of the Alto de Matet nearby, that a group of seven riders, including Manuel Sanroma, began to break the uniformity of a fairly large peloton.

A large number of riders fell and caused a big break, with Alem Herráiz and César Pérez falling behind after this incident, and another fall affected the leader, Pau Martí, and Lucas Guillermo from La Rioja, among others. This fall set up a complex race situation in which Joel Díaz, Álex García and Manuel Sanroma were able to ride in a vanguard that the Salchi team tried to control for the interests of Anguela.
The attacks were constant, the leading group did not stop being selected and the final climb in Segorbe marked the final selection. Iñaki Navarro achieved a small advantage, enough to score the victory and Joel Díaz tried unsuccessfully to distance a great Mario Anguela. Álex García, great friend of Joel, finished seventh overall, Joan Cadena secured his leadership in the classification of the flying goals and the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team climbed to the top of the final team classification.
“We were very close to the top of the final podium, but I am happy because we have done everything in our power and because the work of the team during the Memorial Cabedo has been really good. A good result that invites us to continue working and to face the next commitments with great enthusiasm”, explained Joel Díaz after the podium.
