IX Volta a la Provincia de Valencia
From 5 to 8 September
Raúl García, Carlos Rodríguez, Javier Serrano and Fernando Tercero have been summoned by the Spanish junior coach, the manchego Paco Cerezo, in order to compete in the ninth edition of the Volta a la Provincia de Valencia elite and sub-23, which takes place between Thursday and Sunday. Juan Ayuso, Igor Arrieta and Xabier Isasa complete the selection.
The four riders of the Kometa Cycling Team will have the opportunity to compete in a time trial of more than twenty kilometres, a distance well above the usual in the youth field, as well as to test themselves in the demanding terrain of the Alto Turia.
In the mind of Paco Cerezo, the idea of making a quality preparation with the mind set on the next World Cycling Championships in Yorkshire, which will be disputed as far as the junior category is concerned on 23 (time trial) and 26 September (route).
The time trial of th Worlds will be disputed on a route of 28 kilometers with departure and arrival in Harrogate, a distance very similar to the one of the spanish race and for which the junior will maintain the maximum habitual development of their category: 52×14 (7,93 meters).
“We’re really looking forward to learning how to compete in the U23 category”, says Javi Serrano. “We are very happy to have this opportunity, a unique experience of knowing your level with respect to a higher category. We hope to do well. Nor are we going to have any ambition to be in front, simply by riding in the pack and taking rhythm for the World Championship”, adds Carlos Rodríguez.
