Sprint resolution in a first stage where all the EOLO-KOMETA U23 riders saved the day in the peloton
XII Volta a la Provincia de Valencia
Stage 1: Valencia – Vilamarxant (135 km)
The Israeli rider Oded Kogut imposed his top speed in the mass sprint that resolved the opening day of the Volta a la Provincia de Valencia, a first fraction in which the most important thing for all the aspirants to the final victory was to save the day without incidents or mishaps. In the sprint, Arnau Gilabert finished twelfth, with Marcel Camprubí a little further back, fourteenth, with the same time as the winner. All the riders in the blue formation arrived with the main bunch.
The day was marked by a breakaway of two riders that was consolidated, after a previous attempt of a quintet, at kilometre 35: Clement Delcros (Aix-en-Provence) and Iñaki Díaz (Caja Rural). The duo had just over two and a half minutes on a peloton that controlled the situation well. The adventure came to an end in the last fifteen kilometres.
For this Friday, a very important stage in the Levantine race given the passage through the Alto del Garbí, a very hard mountain pass that is crowned in the last 20 kilometres of the stage. A climb with three very hard kilometres, with an average gradient of over 11% and ramps of 22%.
