Álvaro García, out of the Vuelta a Extremadura due to a swollen knee after being run over in the streets of Torrelavega
XXVI Vuelta a Extremadura
From 24 to 26 de septiembre
His season is not over yet, but he will not be able to take part in the next Vuelta a Extremadura as initially planned. Cantabrian rider Álvaro García is resting after an incident with a vehicle in the streets of Torrelavega on Wednesday in which he suffered heavy blows, especially to his right knee.
García, who had just competed in the Volta a la Provincia de Valencia, a race in which he also suffered a fall and had started the week more relaxed, faced a day of gentle training, with no special workload. Shortly after starting to pedal, an incorrect manoeuvre by a vehicle brought the session to an abrupt end. Quite a scare.
“I had just left home, I had only been training for a couple of minutes. In one of the streets of my town, Torrelavega, a car suddenly turned into a continuous line. I could do absolutely nothing to avoid it. I got a good blow on my left side. And above all on my right knee”, says the Cantabrian rider. “It’s very swollen, I have hardly any mobility, I can’t ride a bike at the moment”.
