Vicente Hernaiz, in the fight until the end: finishes third in the Vuelta a Cantabria
Vuelta Ciclista a Cantabria
Etapa 3: Puente Viesgo – Cueva del Monte Castillo (148,4 km)
A very selective route to elucidate the general classification, with a demanding chain stage (El Caracol and La Braguía) and a hilly finish, short but hard enough to establish some differences. However, in the Cuevas de Monte Castillo, less than ten riders were playing for the victory. British rider Callum Johnston won the partial and Vicente Hernaiz, seventh at the finish, climbed to third place in a final general classification won by British rider Vinicius Rangel.
The last stage of the Cantabrian round again had a ‘breakaway of the day’ that, given the income of more than four minutes with which it came to travel at some points, required a lot of work in the peloton before the race reached the mountains. El Caracol made a great selection and La Braguía finished it off, leaving a group of twenty riders in the general classification, including Edu Pérez-Landaluce and Vicente Hernaiz.
