Astillero, next competitive stop for EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team elite and U23

The Cantabrian calendar once again attracts a lot of attention in the elite and U23 categories in this context of maximum health precautions which, over the last two months, has led to several postponements in terms of competitions. The Gran Premio San José de El Astillero, this Sunday, is a race with tradition and historical weight, more than half a century of life. The pandemic has in some way also made it possible to highlight the value of some events that are perhaps not so mediatic on a national level, overshadowed by the Spanish Cup, as is the case of this event promoted by the Federico Cobo Cycling Club, a race that has traditionally opened the Cantabrian regional calendar.

The Cantabrian event brings together a powerful national peloton which, as far as the elite and U23 structure of the Contador Foundation is concerned, will be represented by the Balearic Joan Martí Bennassar, the Cantabrian Álvaro García, the Valladolid-born Vicente Hernaiz, the Madrid-born Alejandro Luna, the Andalusians David Martín and José Luis Medina, and the Asturians Edu Pérez-Landaluce and Yago Segovia. A powerful and versatile team.

With the start and finish set on the outskirts of the town, to allow for maximum health guarantees, the race is based on the five laps that the riders face on the classic circuit, with the Alto de la Venta as the highlight. This climb of barely two kilometres is deceptive: although its average gradient is around 5%, its first stages have percentages of over 10%. An ideal terrain for offensives that will be crowned for the last time in the last two kilometres.
