Second place for the Kometa Cycling Team in the inaugural team time trial of the Vuelta a Zamora
XXXVI Vuelta Ciclista a Zamora
Stage 1: Revellinos -Villalba de la Lampreana (21,7 TTT)
Great start to the Vuelta a Zamora for the Kometa Cycling Team. The U23 formation of the Alberto Contador Foundation finished second in the inaugural team time trial that took place this Tuesday afternoon between the towns of Revellinos and Villalba de la Lampreana. With a final time of 24:13, the six of the Kometa was two seconds away from the time marked by the Lizarte, in the end the winning set of this first fraction.
The Kometa Cycling Team was the penultimate team to come out to compete in an essentially flat course dominated by the great straights and very open spaces of this area of the Tierra de Campos region. The Italian Alessio Acco, the Balearic Joan Martí Bennassar, the Riojan Arturo Grávalos, the Galician Alejandro Regueiro, the Granada Alejandro Ropero and the Asturian Yago Segovia were used thoroughly. They would manage to reduce in seven seconds the time of the GS Sport Platform Iberium.
The ‘lizarte’ Jordi López is the first leader of a race in which Yago Segovia is in sixth place, followed by his teammates Joan Martí Bennassar, Alejandro Ropero, Alessio Acco and Arturo Grávalos. Alejandro Regueiro gave up in the last few minutes after working hard.
“It has been a pity not being able to achieve the victory. We made a great time, going very fast. The route was very flat and practically the same road. With a kilometre and a half to go, I had to open up, the very high pace killed me”, says the Galician.
Joan Martí Bennassar, a great specialist: “The first kilometres were good, we had a very good run. There was hardly any wind, it was blowing from side to side almost the whole time trial. It was a very fast time trial. We rode almost all the time at almost 56 km/h. We did things well, I’m satisfied. With two seconds to go before the finish line we’ve lowered the intensity a bit and that’s where I think those two seconds of difference came from. The finish was a bit complicated due to the circumstances of the time trial, as we are all fair and in the end it is easier to uncoordinate. But we’re happy, we’re there in front and we’ll see what happens in the next few days”.
This Wednesday the zamorada round faces its second stage, 141 kilometers between Muga de Sayago and Cabañas de Sayago that will look out over the border with Portugal and will have several orographic difficulties of little entity distributed by their itinerary.
