The U23 squad finishes in Olías del Rey its preparation for the Spanish Cup

The 39th edition of the Trofeo Olías Industrial, in the town of Olías del Rey, Toledo, was the enclave chosen by the technical direction of the Kometa Cycling Team sub23 to maintain the competitive pulse of the squad after the opening of the Copa de España in the Circuito del Guadiana and before the arrival, in seven days, of its second appointment in the Trofeo Guerrita in Murcia. A race where the Madrid team could exercise skills and fine-tune their set-up, making an interesting second place in the overall teams.

The Trofeo Olías Industrial was held again on its traditional circuit of about thirty kilometres to complete four laps to reach the 124 km planned. A circuit with a very favourable profile, passing through the towns of Olías del Rey, Bargas, Yunclillos, Magán and Mocejón; the slope of Alto de Olías, near the finish line in the Plaza Nueva of the town of Toledo, was once again emerging as a great orographic difficulty.

In this edition, with a great participation, Daniel Sánchez Cidoncha won, while `the kometa man’ Alejandro Ropero signed the seventh place in the sprint with which the race was resolved. A frenetic edition again, marked by a strong rhythm, many escape attempts, some fall and a very high average speed. The wind did not blow with force in these roads of Castilla-La Mancha, but the test was developed to great speed.  A good example of this would be the average set by the winner, above 43.7 km/h.

In his first race with the Kometa Cycling Team under23 after making the jump from the junior team, the Catalan Álex Martín finished in an outstanding eleventh place. Martin had been involved in some offensive in the early stages of the race. The twentieth finished the Galician Alejandro Regueiro. The rest of the nine presented by the team that finished the race, all with the same time as the winner, were Eduardo Pérez Landaluce, 52º; Sergio García, 57º; and Yago Segovia, 65º. Joan Martí Bennassar, Carlos García and Sergio Hernández were the rest of the members.

“The race to prepare the Trofeo Guerrita has been very good for us; it has been a good test for an appointment that is very hard that has allowed us that several riders that had not yet debuted have been able to do it and to finalize their state of form”, sketches the director Rafa Díaz Justo. Around kilometre 100 the Madrid team began to work to form and consolidate a cut.

“We were clear that the race was good for us to pick up pace and give us some heat and personally that I have done”, smiles Madrid’s Carlos Garcia. “The race was very flat and did not blow much wind. We got involved in many leaks and we even tried to form a fan, with which we did cut a bunch and then there was a regrouping”.

The debutant Álex Martín: “I’m very happy, the truth is that everything has gone very well. For my part, in general, I had very good feelings. But above all I’m left with the good feelings that the whole team has transmitted. We got to know each other very well in the race”.
