The Polartec-Kometa Continental Team closes its roster with 11 riders

The new Continental team of Alberto Contador Foundation has closed its roster with 11 riders, 9 of which have attended last week the first call at Mapei Sport Center, which will be responsible for the sports preparation of the cyclists.

The Polartec-Kometa team, directed by former professionals Jesús Hernández and Dario Andriotto, will be formed by Michele Gazzoli and Matteo Moschetti (Italy), Patrick Gamper (Austria), Michel Ries (Luxembourg), Awet Habtom (Eritrea), Willen Inkelaar ( Holland), Wilson Estiben Peña (Colombia), Diego Pablo Sevilla, Juan Camacho, Isaac Cantón and Miguel Ángel Ballesteros (Spain).

The Continental team will join Polartec-Kometa Under 23 and Junior teams next season, with which the Alberto Contador Foundation will have a total of 38 riders in 2018, including the latest addition to the U-23 team, Giuliano Kamberaj (Albania ), which was already tested by the team at the end of this season.

The riders of the team had the opportunity last week to get in touch with those who will be responsible for their physical preparation and medical monitoring throughout the year, performing in Italy the first power tests and biomechanical controls to start the season in perfect conditions.

Ivan Basso, as the team’s sports manager, was in charge of supervising all the work carried out. “It was a very important meeting, because it was the first time that the team met to perform physical and performance tests, as well as to know the work system that we will have throughout the season and receive their first personalized training. I am very happy with the work done these days”.

About the riders that will form the Polartec-Kometa, Basso said that “every rider in the team is here because offers a great margin of sports improvement and we trust in him. We have eleven riders, but we don’t exclude to add some other, because we already follow very closely both the cyclists integrated in the Contador Foundation and others outside of it. Our next appointment will be in Arizona, where some of the Continental riders will travel with the U-23s. This team building offers us an exceptional opportunity to continue building the global project of the Contador Foundation, which in 2018 we are sure will take a big step forward”.
