Giro di Lombardia: a race? No, a monument
Giro di Lombardia (1.UWT)
Bergamo-Como (253 km)
People in cycling grew up listening. Listening to grandparents’ stories (yes because everyone, everyone had a grandparent who was passionate about cycling) about races and riders, challenges and climbs, legends and champions. Cycling people grew up dreaming. Dreaming of experiencing even once days like this, days like the Giro di Lombardia: the most beautiful, the hardest, the most fascinating.
The chill of autumn. The smell of yellowing leaves. The toughness of a course that doesn’t give anyone a break. A race that everyone wants to win because winning the Tour of Lombardy is worth a career. So, here we are: and it is already splendid, for us at EOLO-KOMETA, to be there and to take the start. We will never get used to it, to races like this, and each time is like the first. Last year, we had run great, with Lorenzo Fortunato able to hang in there and stay with the strongest until the end. This year, we will try to do the same: with the same desire, the same as always, to deserve the wild card and honor our jersey.
Stefano Zanatta: “This is a fascinating, very hard and beautiful race: we are at the end of a long and tiring season but we have every intention to play our cards and honor this classic that is a monument of cycling. To be here we received an invitation, and our imperative is to deserve this honor. We arrive at this Tour of Lombardy with tired legs from the many kilometers we have done so far, but with the desire to show up to the end. So many people want to win this race but only one can do it: us, we will do our part.”
