Sevilla and Bais fight for the sprint in Slovakia, Fortu keeps mountain jersey
Oloko Slovenska
Stage 3: Detta – Spisská Nová Ves (210km)
Tough stage, constant climbs and many alternatives in the very long day that saw a reduced sprint with Diego Sevilla in fifth position and Davide Bais sixth, confirming a double top-10 for EOLO Kometa before the final day of the competition.
Sevilla was in the short but very select breakaway that made its way through the first part and defended Fortunato’s mountain jersey trying to prevent rivals from scoring points. Neutralised by the main group in the final part, the blues tried to take the win in the reduced sprint but had to settle for the places of honour for Sevilla and Bais.
Diego Sevilla: “It was a tough day, with the climb at the start and not a single flat metre. The race was selected, people tried to get back to the bunch and also to make the breakaway where I was able to get in. We also tried to score mountain points, and once they neutralised me I tried to save for the finish. I knew I wasn’t the fastest, but I still fought for the best possible result. I’m happy with the feeling and tomorrow Lonardi will get his chance”.
