Albanese, fourth place that gives confidence
Tour du Limousin (2.1)
Stage 1: Verneuil sur Vienne-La Souterraine (172’2 km)
Everything seemed to be ready for the sprint, with Movistar and UAE having worked to nullify the day’s breakaway (5 adventurers, 5’30” maximum lead): and instead, Frenchman Julien Simon spoiled the plans by attacking with 1 km to go and thus mocking Trentin and Aramburu, who finished 2nd and 3rd. Behind them, very good in the sprint to touch the podium, our Vincenzo Albanese, who once again comes only close to his first victory among the professionals.
Vincenzo Albanese: “After a long period without racing, I did twenty days in the highlands, this was my first race: it went very well, I got this good fourth place: the level is very high and I also did some sprints to get some bonuses and gained some seconds that will be very useful. In the end the ranking will be very tight because the course is less hard than in other years. I’m happy, I thank the team who raced close to me and made me feel like a leader again: I hope to improve in the next three stages.”
