Álex Martín escapes in the snow at the GP Miguel Induráin
GP Miguel Induráin (1.PRO)
Estella-Estella (191km)
Snow and low temperatures threatened the race, but after modifying the route to avoid the mountain passes, GP Miguel Induráin finally took place. From the opening, the EOLO Kometa riders were very active. David Martín scored in the first hot spot of the day, while Álex Martín managed to filter into the good breakaway.
First, 3 riders and finally 9 in front, after adding more riders from behind. This group shared the effort perfectly, collaborated in the relays and reached four minutes over the main peloton. The cold did not give respite, and the snow appeared in the final part, when with 40 kilometres to go the breakaway was selected for the first time. The strong pace of the peloton put an end to the adventure in the last 20 kilometres.
Martín, in his debut as a professional cyclist after his time in the youth categories of the Alberto Contador Foundation, was able to live up to a high level race and promises, with what he has shown, a great future in the ranks of EOLO Kometa.
Álex Martín: “It was a very bad day, and there were a lot of people who wanted to be in the breakaway to avoid getting cold. There were a lot of breaks with the teams that wanted to get in front, so it took us an hour to get away. When it finally came together, they left us about three and a half minutes ahead but we didn’t have a chance. I’m very happy that my debut was like this, I was the protagonist of the race”.
